- I initially used an ultrasonic cleaner for my cases. I used
- triclor as a solvent (1,1,1-Tricloroethane). It gets them
- very clean. It will not "brighten" or polish the cases. In
- fact the cases will tarnish easier with the oil removed this way.
- Water is not as satisfactory. Don't use flammable solvents as
- the liquid will heat fairly quickly. I suppose that you could
- find some liquid polishing compound but you would need to
- rinse the cases and change the media often. This would probably
- negate the savings in the not so long run. The above method is
- the only way I know of removing the asphaltic seal applied to
- military cases.
-
- I broke down and got a vibratory cleaner because I wanted bright
- cases (easier to find). You can get the smaller versions for
- $60-70.
