- I have this adorable Connemara gelding who wasn't gelded until he was three and
- who fathered at least one mare that I know of. He is very talented, and very
- striking so I always wondered why he was gelded. He has the most wonderful
- temperament as well. Well, he had some real health problems, which gave me
- reason to call his breeder (he's now 10, I didn't buy him frm them). When I
- asked why the gelded him, they explained that he was very immature, had to be
- constantly "trained" and they believed he wouldn't find the proper home as a
- stud although I have since met people who saw him shortly after he was gelded
- and were very upset that hadn't gotten to see him before. But my point is that
- he has turned into a delightful animal and I believe they made the right
- decision (and not jsut because I wouldn't have him if he were stud). He is a
- very people-oriented horse and I think that he might not have found the kind
- of environment he needed. Just my two cents which are clearly prejudiced.
