- Over the Christmas holiday, while visiting my parents
- in the Midwest, I had the opportunity to peruse my
- late grandfather's stamp collection. Among the
- miscellanea were about two dozen airflight and navy
- covers from 1929-53. These covers commemorate (inter
- alia) the launching of ships/submarines, fleet exer-
- cises (incl. one bearing the cachet and postmark of
- the famous aircraft carrier USS Lexington, ca. 1933),
- Charles and Ann Lindbergh's aerial survey of four
- continents (ca. 1933), and various first flights,
- also Byrd's Antarctic expedition.
-
- My question: The philatelic catalogues available
- to me (Scott's, Bowman, Blackbook Price Guide) do not
- list such material. What source should I consult to
- determine what (if any) value these covers might have?
-
- Thanks.
