- The 3060 came out right after I invested in a DBX 166x. I took one
- to the club I was working at at the time and tried it out, and I have to
- say, at 1/2 the price of the 166x, it is an excellant bargain. While
- auto attack and release are ok features, I like control of attack and
- release as it makes the compressor more flexible. If you're mainly
- looking to use it on vocals, this is not as necessary. A friend of mine
- has a couple of 3060's ion his studio, and also likes them a lot, so I
- guess they are quiet enough.
- One other unit you might want to check out is the BSS compressor
- that has 4 units in a 1u rack. They don't have gates, but they do have
- an excellant frequency adjustable de-esser. I can't remember th model
- number, but I have used the older, 2 per 1u version, and it was
- excellant for vocals. If imprperly adjusted, the de-esser was noisy, but
- it was very nice for removing annoying sibilance from vocals. The new
- unit appearantly has the auto circuitry, where the old one allowed
- attack and release adjustment.
