- Here is what I would buy for $7.5K +- 1k
-
- $
- Speakers Dahlquist DQ30i 2000
- Amp C&J MV52 1900
- PreAmp C&J PV11L 1200
- CD player Sonographe 22 900
- Interconnects Straight Wire Maetro 350
- Speaker cables Kimber 4TC, biwired 200
- -----
- 6550

- For this price you've got an all tube system that's going to blow your
- socks away. I've audionned the Dahlquist vs the Mirage and the Snell
- and I found that the DQ's were more open, more detailed, more clear and
- more pleasant. In short they were better in every field; the Mirage
- were the least good of the 3. Conrad & Johnson doesn't need to be
- presented: I believe they have the best tube stuff under $2000. You may
- also want to consider a VTL amp if you want to have a (very small)
- improvment in the bass. The Sonograph is a killer CD, and you would
- have to spend significantly more money to get any thing better with a
- separate transport and D/A. In that case my choice would be an Audio
- Alchemy transport coupled with a PS digital link D/A. Any good
- interconnects will do. My favorite are the Maestro's. Same for the
- speaker cables. Try Steely Dan "Gaucho" master recording or Cowboy
- junkies "Trinity session" at medium to high volume on this system and
- ENJOY THE MUSIC.
-
- For that money you system will sound like a $15,000 system. I've heard
- even more expensive stuff not sounding quite as good.
