- Hmmm... Okay, I, the audio fool, have yet another seemingly basic
- audio question...
- I just bought a Paradigm center channel speaker which is rated at 6
- ohms nominal impedance, 4 ohms minimum impedance. My Sony STR-D1090
- receiver says it "accepts speakers of 8-16 ohms." (Elsewhere in the
- specs it gives dynamic power output ratings for 4 or 8 ohms. Does that
- mean the amp will accept speakers at 4 ohms, or should I just ignore that?)
- Anyway, since my center speaker is only rated at 6 ohms while my amp is
- designed for 8-16 ohm speakers, what's going to happen? I'm not hearing any
- audible distortion, but I have neither $600 for a new amp, nor $180 for a
- new speaker. Should I be concerned, or should the speaker be able to handle
- an 8 ohm input even though it's rated for "6 ohms nominal impedance."
-
- Thanks again, everybody... Hopefully you won't tell me that I need to
- exchange the speaker for an 8-ohm-er. I really like the Paradigm...
