- I have a question which hopefully some tax/visa guru can answer. My employer
- has been withholding Medicare from my pay check ever since my status changed
- from F-1 (Student) to H-1 (Work permit).

- Should non-residents pay for Medicare at all, considering the fact that they
- cannot use it anyway ? (Kinda like Social Security). Is there a clause that
- indicates classes of people that are exempt from this ?

- Should the change in status (F1 to H1) affect Medicare withholding at all ?
- If, in fact, I do not have to pay for Medicare, is there a way to get a
- refund on the amount withheld so far ?
-
- I appreciate any response/information.
