- Could someone help with some basic information or references on SEP plans
- and/or 401(k) plans. My wife has a small business with 1-2 full time and 4-6
- part-time employees. My understanding is that she can set up a SEP/401(k) for
- herself if and only if it is available to all employees and that she must match
- employee contributions. The principal difference between the two is the limits
- of maximum contributions (?). It seems to be a potential bookkeeping
- nightmare, particularly with the high turnover rate of the part-time employees.
- Can some employees be excluded from either plan, e.g. if they work less than 20
- hours a week or until they have worked for 6 months etc?
-
- The books I have read are sketchy on these plans so a pointer to a good
- reference would be welcome in addition to any comments. Email or followup are
- fine. Thanks in advance.
