  24. Criticize, criticize, criticize.  That's what New York's Jews have
  25. been doing to Mayor Dinkins lately.  Doesn't anyone remember that
  26. when David Dinkins ran against then-Mayor Ed Koch in the Democratic
  27. primary election, 30% of the Jewish vote went to Mr. Dinkins?

  29. No less of a public figure than United States Representative Charles
  30. Rangel (D. - N.Y.) has about had it with all this New York Jewish
  31. criticism of Mayor Dinkins.  According to the _Jewish Press_ issue
  32. of Friday, December 18, page 1, "Mr. Rangel, who is a member of
  33. Congress recently made a comment to the effect that if the Hasidic
  34. Jews did not stop criticizing his dear friend, the mayor, and if
  35. they played a role in the mayor's re-election defeat, *there will be
  36. a major problem in New York City*."

  38. Is Mr. Jake Livni listening?  Does he want a "major problem" (whatever
  39. that means) in New York City?

  48. More criticism!  According to the _Press_ article, "Mr. Rangel also
  49. commented, 'New Yorkers aren't kind to people who talk differently,
  50. look differently and who don't act like New Yorkers.'"  Mr. Livni
  51. and the other New York Jews have been warned, and by a Congressman,
  52. no less.  How much longer is he going to continue posting articles
  53. to USENET critical of Mayor Dinkins?

  58. Yes, and how many deaths will it take till we learn
  59. that too many people have died?  There's gotta be peace.
  60. The late Congressman, Reverend Adam Clayton Powell, Junior,
  61. in his great sermon, "One Day," called for a time when "the
  62. blood of my brother will no longer run in the dark alleyways
  63. of our cities, victims of brutality."  He called for a time
  64. when all of us could "enjoy the sweetness of freedom, here;
  65. there's a Zion on Earth, if we stand together, walk together."

  67. My proposal for peace is an immediate moratorium on
  68. ENVY and RESENTMENT among all groups involved.  We don't
  69. need anyone trying to divide us into "nice people" versus
  70. "slum people."  Former Mayor Koch himself, in a column
  71. reprinted on Page 14 of the December 18 _Jewish Press_,
  72. writes that "Mayor Dinkins has been falsely denounced
  73. as a 'racist,' 'Jew hater,' or 'anti-Semite.'  He is
  74. none of these."

  76. The Good Book says, "Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, 
  77. do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who persecute you."
  78. So let's have that moratorium on ENVY and RESENTMENT, starting this
  79. very next Friday, December 25, which is both _Hanukkah_ and _Rosh
  80. Chodesh Teveth_.  And while the moratorium is going on, I invite
  81. Congressman Rangel, as well as the Reverends Sharpton, Daughtry
  82. and Mitchell and (l'havdil!) Rabbis Avi Weiss and Sholom Klass 
  83. (publisher of the _Jewish Press_), to participate in an earnest 
  84. discussion (no flames, please) right here on misc.legal on how 
  85. New Yorkers can return to the days when individuals and groups 
  86. lived together in peace, each under its own vine and fig tree.
  87. Let's start planning how we can have Rev. Powell's "Zion on Earth"
  88. within the Five Boroughs of New York City.
