- It really is a rip off. I also received one the other day offering to
- take care of the SS paper work to change my name (I got married 4 months
- ago). Half way thru the rather long letter they do mention that it is
- easy to do yourself. I suppose they have to put it in to avoid some sort
- of legal recourse.

- When I got Jeffreys SS#, I first stopped at city hall to pick up his
- birth certificate. Then I went to the SS office, and filled in the forms.
- I think they just looked at the birth certificate. City Hall and SS are
- within 3 miles of my house, and the whole process took about 2 hours.
