  13. Having survived now, I thought I would send out a "think about this"
  14. message:

  16.   What do you do when your child gets sick on a major holiday and you
  17.   will need both Doctor and Pharmacy?

  19. Of course, the hospital emergency room is always available, but unless
  20. you are seriously hurt you will wait and wait and wait with a miserably
  21. sick child.

  23. David (almost 6) came down with an earache (ALWAYS an ear infection in
  24. his case) at 11:30pm Christmas Eve.  We gave him Tylenol which usually
  25. helps with the pain, but no go for some reason.  We gave him a second
  26. dose at around 3:30am and that seemed to help for he was able to sleep
  27. after that.  And he appeared to be fine that morning but was running a
  28. fever.  I called the answering service for the doctor and found out
  29. that there was an Urgent Care center open from 9-6 that day.  I also
  30. found out that there was a 24 hour Pharmacy open nearby  (it turns out
  31. the only one for a radius of about 30 miles).  Also, the Urgent Care
  32. had samples and was able to give us a 2 day supply until we could get
  33. to the pharmacy.

  35. Anyway, I now know that this Urgent Care is open most days from
  36. 8am-10pm and usually shorter hours on weekends/holidays, but still open.

  38. If you don't already know, you might make a point of finding out what
  39. your alternatives are to the Emergency Room year around (especially
  40. holidays).  When your child is sick this worry is the last thing you
  41. need.
