- Actually, I am of the camp that believes a dictionary *does not* define what
- a word means; rather a large group of people using and understanding a word
- defines what it means. And based on that critereon, I would say that the
- phrase "we are pregnant" is technically correct, simply because large numbers
- of people are using the term, and it seems most people are understanding what
- is meant (even if they dislike the term). In fact, I think it is a useful
- phrase in that it does carry a connotation different than "my wife is
- pregnant" or "we are expecting" in that it implies a tighter or closer to
- equal sharing of the joys and trials of pregnancy. To some, that is a
- positive implication, to others, not. As to which term people should use,
- I agree with the philosphy of deferring to the preference of the person or
- couple who is pregnant as to which she or they prefer.
