  26.   How to say this?  The RaMBaM lived almost a thousand years ago and
  27.   was a physician of such note that his medical writings were standard
  28.   texts until quite recently.  Unlike Catholic priests, rabbis are NOT
  29.   celibate -- in fact, marriage is practically a requirement for being
  30.   taken seriously.  Oops.

  36.   Actually, rabbis have very little to do with it.  It's purely a
  37.   medical decision.  Anesthetics, like ALL drugs, have their
  38.   downsides and infants are particularly sensitive.  On the other
  39.   hand, thousands of years' experience has taught that when a
  40.   circumcision is performed QUICKLY and SKILLFULLY, the child takes
  41.   it about as well as the heel-prick used to diagnose PKU.  (Hey!
  42.   there's another abuse we can campaign against!)
