- If you're talking about variable life, then as I understand it, it is a
- combination of death benefit *and* investment vehicle. The insurance
- companies have some mutual funds that you can invest in (that's where
- the variable part is). Frequently these funds are run by a major fund
- family (like Fidelity) and parallel some of their families (may even
- have the same manager). The funds available are likely to be less than
- the larger fund families, but may be 6 or so. That will give a choice
- of money market, and various amounts of aggressiveness.
-
- I don't have any pointers but I'd suggest a trip to the Reader's Guide
- to Periodical Literature. May have been mention in Money, Fortune,
- Forbes, etc.
-
- Under current tax laws, the variable life offers a substantial tax
- advantage in the sense that withdrawals can be made tax-free. I'm not
- too clear on this, and Congress in their ever widening quest for
- "revenue enhancement" :-( may pickle this one off.
-
- I'd certainly advise anyone not to jump in merely on the basis my
- posting (or probably anyone else's :-). Do your own investigation.
- If you do, look for an insurance company with "segregated accounts".
- This means that the investment account is separate from the insurance
- account and even if the company goes into chapter 11, the investment
- account is shielded from the creditors.
-
- Usual disclaimers.
