- |[remarks about access to Russian programmers deleted]
- I would like to solicit your opinion on the following matter. Short time ago I
- encountered an ad of a Russian software company offering different products such
- |as computer graphics, PC games, learning packages for children with game
- |elements, and so on. My question is: Can I try to become a distributor of
- |their products in US and what kind of agreements are generally required? If I
- |had a distribution or licencing agreement with those guys, how would I go
- |about selling this stuff here? Is there a market for, say, PC games or
- |learning packages? How can I interest big software resellers like CompUSA
- |or Egghead to carry them? Unfortunately, I do not have any experience in
- |selling software, so any info on this will be highly appreciated.

- I can only give you general marketing advice since I have no specific
- experience in software. First, line up your Russian suppliers so you
- know what you have for sale here in the USA. I would think samples are
- necessary. Second, consider being an importer only instead of a
- distributor. That way you would sell to distributors, who could in turn
- advise you on what kind of software the market is seeking. Third, don't
- be bashful about calling executives of smallish software firms to inquire
- if they are interested. Lots of them are being squeezed by the big boys
- [I think] and might consider doing something new, or even trying out your
- ability to get software written in Russia. Most of all, do your best to
- suck up information any way you can by calling any company you think can
- help. If you're going to be a successful salesman here, you can start by
- diligently using the phone. IMHO, there's a groundswell of good feelings
- for Russia and things Russian in this country; most of us realize the
- Russians are brainy people struggling to succeed and they would like to
- help.
-
- Perhaps this rambling on will encourage somebody more knowledgeable to
- pitch in. Best of luck, and go for it. DMcKenzie
