- Coming from the idiot that quotes a whole article in order to add one
- line of "witty" commentary.
-
- To Jeff's article, what a nifty idea! Hadn't thought of that one.
- Hmmm... One could set up a fortune cookie-like database that would rotate
- ads through motd frequently. Major applications could be "sponsored"
- by advertisers. NN for example, prints a signoff message as it is.
- That message could be a few lines of ads.
-
- To the pricing issue. At least in print media, the advertisers look
- at something called CPM or cost-per-thousand. This is a measure of
- how much it costs to reach a thousand potential customers and is
- calculated by dividing the ad rate in $$$ by the circulation of the
- publication. Note that pubishers routinely massage circulation numbers
- to reflect estimated "pass throughs"; eg, those issues that are passed
- on to other readers. A CPM of $100 is pretty typical.
-
- Hmm. An idea to consider... Hmmm....
