- North Carolina issues the following certifications:
-
- EMT (a.k.a. EMT-Ambulance or EMT-Basic)
- EMT-Defibrillation
- EMT-Intermediate
- EMT-Advanced Intermediate
- EMT-Paramedic
- MICN
-
- Skills:
-
- EMT-D: Automatic or semi-automatic defibrillator
- EMT-I: MAST, Subcu Epi for Anaphalaxis, IV Therapy, and EOA (in a few counties)
- EMT-AI: Similar to the old Cardiac Tech - some cardiac drugs, etc.
- This level is usually used as transitionary by services which are
- implementing a paramedic program.
- EMT-P: Pretty much what you would expect, I think.
- MICN: I'm not really sure what an MICN can do in the field. I don't know of
- any ground transport services which use MICN's in the field, although
- some counties have MICN's in the ER to give orders to field units.
- (RNs cannot give ALS orders, but MICNs can).
-
- At lease that's the way it is as I understand it.
