- Quoting a message from BLAKE BOWERS to BOB UPSON
-
- BB| BU> Who owned the camera and was the cameraman on premises
- legally?
- |
- | This was not a video of a actual call, this was a video of adults
- acting
- | like children, using squad equipment. The cameraman was on the scene
- legal
- | due to it being a set up situtation.
-
- Blake, you are correct here... it was set up for taping purposes.
-
- BB| BU> If the camera didn't belong to the company and the cameraman
- was
- | BU> legally, the company has no claim on the winnings. They may
- not be
- | BU> pleased with the members for not turning over the money, but
- the
- | BU> company has no 'right' to it, IMHO.
- |
- | Taking a unit off the street, and operating it in a unsafe manner,
- (ie
- | lights and sirens when there is no call) in order to film a bit of
- | unprofessional garbage, when wearing the uniform of the squad, is
- | grounds for immediate dismissal. They should be dismissed, or at
- least
- | suspended for 6 months, and if the money is not donated to the
- squad,
- | they should be assessed a fine, to cover vehicle costs, and the
- poor
- | public relations that the poor judgement spawned.
-
- Can't be sure that they used siren because the audio was dubbed over
- with the song... as for the poor public relations, that didn't really
- begin until the brew-ha-ha over who gets the prize money -- actually
- the newspaper did a neat little preview article that the crew was
- going
- to be on the show... up until then, the PR was good.
-
- It has been said that the video crew asked for a bill of material used
- even =before= they won the prize... but NAVAC had not billed them.
-
- I'll keep monitoring this and update should anything else become
- public.
