  16. Chuck, first off, my apologies for not using netmail to send this, but
  17. I
  18. simply don't have access to it.
  19. Secondly, I urge you to reconsider this.  Granted, some of the messages
  20. were heated.  I, as the recipient of many of them, was not offended by
  21. them.  I certainly SHOULD have exercised more restraint in some of my
  22. responses, and will do so in the future.
  23. One of the advantages of this echo is the ability to argue, sometimes
  24. passionately, some of the problems facing our business.  We've both
  25. been
  26. in this business long enough to know firefighters can't HELP but argue.
  27. All you need is two of them, and they don't even have to be from
  28. different Departments, and they are gonna question each other's sanity
  29. over an issue or two.  At the same time, we both know no matter how
  30. intense the discussion sometimes gets, they know we are all in this
  31. together.
  32. This has obviously been a thread that has piqued the interest of a
  33. diverse group.  We've had not only firefighters and medics here, but
  34. we've also had a photojournalist or two express THEIR side of the
  35. issue.
  36. And, that is what this echo should be about.  No matter the opinions
  37. are
  38. close to diametrically opposed, at least we have the opportunity to
  39. read
  40. and learn.
  41. There certainly is nothing wrong with "what state allows what lights",
  42. or "let's swap patches", but do we want an echo devoted to that alone?
  43. Might I suggest, instead of simply quashing a discussion because it
  44. becomes heated, a rejoinder from you to anyone you feel is simply
  45. "flaming" instead of contributing.  That seems to work well on some of
  46. the other echos and it gets the issue back on track.
  47. I hope you will reconsider and let this discussion continue should
  48. someone want to add their opinion.  Who knows, one of us might even
  49. learn something.
