- Chuck, first off, my apologies for not using netmail to send this, but
- I
- simply don't have access to it.
- Secondly, I urge you to reconsider this. Granted, some of the messages
- were heated. I, as the recipient of many of them, was not offended by
- them. I certainly SHOULD have exercised more restraint in some of my
- responses, and will do so in the future.
- One of the advantages of this echo is the ability to argue, sometimes
- passionately, some of the problems facing our business. We've both
- been
- in this business long enough to know firefighters can't HELP but argue.
- All you need is two of them, and they don't even have to be from
- different Departments, and they are gonna question each other's sanity
- over an issue or two. At the same time, we both know no matter how
- intense the discussion sometimes gets, they know we are all in this
- together.
- This has obviously been a thread that has piqued the interest of a
- diverse group. We've had not only firefighters and medics here, but
- we've also had a photojournalist or two express THEIR side of the
- issue.
- And, that is what this echo should be about. No matter the opinions
- are
- close to diametrically opposed, at least we have the opportunity to
- read
- and learn.
- There certainly is nothing wrong with "what state allows what lights",
- or "let's swap patches", but do we want an echo devoted to that alone?
- Might I suggest, instead of simply quashing a discussion because it
- becomes heated, a rejoinder from you to anyone you feel is simply
- "flaming" instead of contributing. That seems to work well on some of
- the other echos and it gets the issue back on track.
- I hope you will reconsider and let this discussion continue should
- someone want to add their opinion. Who knows, one of us might even
- learn something.
- Thanks, S. C. Stone
