- BK#We have had an increasing number of rather bizarre accidents over the
- last f
- #months. They involve children with injuries of various severity from
- having
- #televisions falling on them, usually their heads. Apparently the
- child is
- #either climbing on the TV, or reaching up to turn it on, and pulls it
- over.
-
- Keep in mind that on the newer TV's, there is virtually nothing of
- weight in them except the picture tube, and ~85% of that weight is
- in the front lens glass. It wouldn't take too much effort to pull
- the top of the TV forward to the point where the center of gravity
- is no longer above the "feet" of the TV, causing the TV to fall
- forward onto the toddler. And, what toddlers do you know that
- don't like climbing up or pulling themselves up by hanging on
- things?
-
- Older TV's, remember, had lots of tubes, power supplies, and
- heavier components in them, so sheer weight kept them pretty
- stable when sitting on a TV stand.
