- I am a part-time police officer (long story) in Connecticut. If I was on patrol
- and was dispatched to an MVA and there was already on scene an out of state
- vehicle with a trained person really helping in whatever capacity and they
- had a light (no matter what kind) on their vehicle I would welcome it.
-
- If that person was using it to help warn the oncoming traffic of the
- accident so there wouldn't be any further problems, the out of state person
- would be doing a great service to those injured and to me (by not having to do
- an accident report on a bigger accident). I would probably end up sending a
- letter to his/her chief praising their efforts.
-
- BUT ... if the out of state person was a real flamer and was more of a
- hinderance to the situation, s/he would probably be going for a ride in my car,
- in the back seat.
-
- All in all, it depends on how that person used it. When I go out of state,
- I always pack my Whelan DashMaster II with a red and blue lens. If I ever come
- across and accident (and often do) I use it to warn the oncoming traffic. As
- always, I travel with my 'stuff' including flares. At least the strobes can
- be utilized well before I can acess to situation for use of flares. I know the
- strobe are illegal in all states being that I don't have a permit for that
- combination but whoever sees them ahead of them on the highway knows there is
- something going on and they slow down.
-
- To answer the question, the lights would not be legal in Connecticut, but
- the cops will be much too busy at an accident with other things to worry about
- breaking them off on a real do-gooder.
