- Hint: When your "annual fee" (read, padded income) comes due each year, phone
- the card issuer and ask for a one-time waiver of the fee. So competitive is
- the credit card market, that I've been doing this one-time thing year after
- year, with some of the same card issuers. Consequently, I haven't paid an
- annual fee in years. Note that with some (not all) of the "affinity" card
- issuers- like the airline cards- this may take a little more convincing. But
- if you regularly charge a lot (even if you pay off immediately, income still
- comes from the merchant fee), or if you pay a lot of finance charges, you'd
- be surprised what a quick phone call can do. If they balk, tell 'em you're
- cancelling the card. And some airline/affinity card issuers DO waive the fee.
