- Prostitution Ring Released in Dominican Republic
-
- A group of foreigners who traffic in Dominican women, selling them
- as prostitutes in Europe, were set free on Dec. 21 before charges
- could be brought against them, according to the Dominican
- Republic's Director General of Immigration, Vice Admiral Victor
- Garcia Alecont. The group is headed by Belgian Andres Delvaux and
- his wife, Luz Marina Marchete, owners of a travel agency used for
- the woman-trafficking.
-
- Some 800 Dominican passports and sets of travel papers were found
- in the residence of Pierre Luc Marecl, another member of the
- group. Allan Ayan Berlinder and Yan Berlinder are in charge of
- recruiting the women, at $30,000 a head.
-
- First news of the group having been set free came form Despradel
- Guerrero, Commander of the Police Department of Falsifications.
- His department was not involved, he said, because "immigration had
- control of the case." The group was released into the custody of
- the Belgian consulate. However, Belgian diplomat Periche Vidal
- did not set up any surveillance of the accused in his custody.
