- EcoNet Program Position
-
- The Institute for Global Communications is seeking an outstanding
- candidate to manage its environmental networking program, EcoNet. The
- primary responsibilities of this position are to continue building EcoNet
- into a strong and effective communications and information exchange
- mechanism for environmental sustainability. This will involve extensive
- outreach and assistance to environmental organizations to help them use
- computer networking technology effectively. This will also involve
- working to constantly refine the EcoNet network to provide the best
- possible service.

- Responsibilities:

- Approximately half of this position will be committed to general
- administration of EcoNet. This will include responding to phone, mail, and
- electronic mail information requests and inquiries, meeting with visitors at
- the IGC office, evaluating and possibly implementing new environment and
- development activities, and internal communication and coordination with
- other San Francisco based and remote program staff.

- Approximately half of this position will be committed to the
- management and development of well-defined projects in specific program
- and issue areas. These include but are not restricted to supporting existing
- issue areas: Transportation, Renewable Energy, Trade, Environmental
- Education, Sustainable Agriculture, Toxics & Pesticides, Rainforests.

- Development and management of these projects will involve
- extensive interaction with staff and volunteers of a wide range of
- environmental organizations, from large professional groups to grassroots
- organizations without paid staff. This interaction will include discussion of
- communications and information needs, advice on selection and
- configuration of computer equipment, occasional training on the use of
- various telecommunications technologies, and development of online
- discussion and planning groups.

- The ideal candidate will have:

- o a deep commitment to working for a better world;
- o excellent writing and public speaking skills;
- o experience with organizations working on some of the following
- issues: environmental protection, sustainable development,
- economic justice, racial and ethnic diversity, gender equality;
- o acquaintance with a wide range of involved environmentalists;
- o experience and success with fundraising;
- o familiarity with the content of environmental issues;
- o ability to work independently, write regular summary reports, and
- organize and manage projects;
- o expertise with computer telecommunications,;
- o ability to work harmoniously with other office staff;
- o experience with word processing;
- o some experience with computer databases and spreadsheets;
- o ability to work in a non-English language.

- Hours: 40 hours per week.

- Starting Date: February 15, 1992

- Salary: $27,000-$31,500 depending on experience. Includes medical and
- dental insurance coverage, 3 week vacation.
