- I was talking about this with a friend who used to live here and has
- since moved to the SanFrancisco Bay area and helps run a public access
- internet site. Out there, anyone who wants an internet account can get
- access just about anywhere. There are lots of competing commercial
- services and various degrees of public access sites, and this helps to
- keep the costs to consumers down, to where sites like his don't charge
- but just accept donations of hardware or money.
-
- We got to talking about WiscNet charges, and thought that if a business
- like MIX could start off with enough users and maybe some corporate
- sponsors, to break even on a highspeed line to say, somewhere in
- chicago, bypassing WiscNet, and if word got out that this was a really
- cool service, you could actually have a profitable business for
- yourself. Mix could then look into offering slip access or whatever
- else users would be willing to pay for locally.

- I am not speaking for or against Wiscnet, and not as a
- representative of CSD in this discussion. I am just sharing
- some casual personal conversations of interest related to this thread.
