-
- HP/Apollo Trade-up Promotion Now includes SPARCstation 10 Model 30
-
- SunFLASH Vol 48 #10 December 1992
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Customer Migration Support Expanded
-
- Beginning December 7, 1992, Sun Microsystems Computer Corporation(TM) (SMCC)
- has expanded its aggressive trade-up program for the HP/Apollo installed base.
-
- A direct trade-up path to the SPARCstation(TM) 10 Model 30 is now available
- to the HP/Apollo installed base. All trade-up paths to the SPARCstation
- 10 Model 30 will be orderable until March 26, 1992 at the current special
- prices.
-
- Sun has teamed up with Paranet, a consulting firm with considerable
- Apollo DOMAIN(R) and UNIX(R) experience, to offer migration services
- to customers requiring outside expertise to migrate from DOMAIN
- to UNIX.
-
-
- PROGRAM ENHANCEMENTS
- --------------------
- Reaction to the trade-up program that was originally announced in July
- 1992 has been very strong and very positive among HP/Apollo users.
-
- Users from a variety of market segments have been attracted to
- Sun with this offer of superior trade-in values combined with
- all the benefits of the industry-leading SPARCstation systems.
-
- Due to strong customer requests, the SPARCstation 10 Model 30
- was added to the program to make it easier for users needing
- a direct path to a high performance machine.
-
-
- SMCC is committed to ensuring superior transition support from DOMAIN
- to Solaris(R)/SPARC(R). We are in the process of establishing tools
- and programs that will cover three key areas:
-
- o software migration
- o interoperability
- o service/support
-
- The following vendors are offering programs to help DOMAIN users
- move to Sun UNIX.
-
- Mentor Graphics: Mentor Graphics(R) will waive license transfer fees
- when DOMAIN users move to Sun. In addition, Mentor has
- developed a migration guide and professional services to assist
- users with the process of migration. A DOMAIN/UNIX
- interoperability lab has been set up by Mentor to simulate and
- test customer issues and solutions. For more information,
- contact your local Mentor sales office or Bob Jones
- (bob.jones@West.sun.com), Sun's Mentor account manager in
- Portland, Oregon.
-
- Atria: The Atria ClearCASE(TM) product contains a migration tool to
- assist users of Apollo's DSEE product to move to ClearCASE on
- Sun. Additional literature on migration issues is also
- available from Atria. Contact your local Atria Sales office
- for more information.
-
- Interleaf: Interleaf(TM) is offering conversion filters for customers
- moving from Apollo to Sun hardware.
-
- Auto-trol Technology: Auto-trol(TM) offers conversion services and
- consulting to move CAD databases from DOMAIN to Sun/UNIX.
-
- Paranet(TM), a consulting firm with considerable Apollo experience, has
- teamed with Sun to offer consulting services to customers with
- substantial amounts of DOMAIN-specific scripts or software
- which must be converted to UNIX. They offer a wide range of
- service options and will team with Sun Integration Services(TM)
- on major projects. Paranet can be brought into qualified
- accounts early in the sales process to assist in positioning
- Sun as the best choice for current DOMAIN users.
-
-
-
- Q. What does the customer return to SMCC, and do they have to return
- something before they can upgrade?
-
- A. The customer must return a full system in working order to SMCC within
- 30 days of receipt of the trade-up product.
- SMCC's customers do not have to return anything before trading-up. The
- trade-up includes a return materials authorization kit (RMA) that provides
- the customer with everything they need (except packaging) to comply with
- the return rules.
