  21. We have an xview based network management software that(among other things)
  22. does the following:

  24. It collects packet data from the network and scrolls the same in a window on 
  25. the console. It also saves this data to a file in /tmp. The problem is that 
  26. eventually, /tmp is full and I get a write error. Also, the window system
  27. freezes, i.e., the mouse can be moved, but no window will accept focus.
  28. Once the application is killed, the system is back to normal.
  29.  
  30. What I want to know is: 
  31. Is there a way to limit the size of the file being written to /tmp ? I 
  32. would like to do this from within the application itself. 
  33. Ideally, I would like the user to be able to specify the size of the file
  34. at the time of invocation of the application.

  36. We run this application on SPARCstations in OpenWindows version 3.0.
  37.  
  38. Any pointers to solve this problem appreciated.
