  28. I am using a 14.4 kbps modem and was having problems with transfers until I
  29. bought a 16550 chip.  Like most people that bought early serial boards I
  30. had added a 16450 several years ago.  When it came to upgrading, replaing
  31. the socket chip was a breeze and inexpensive ( <$10 ).
