  17. "balloting" of the IEEE P1295.2 standard. This standard uses
  18. the OPEN LOOK Intrinsics Toolkit (OLIT) as base technology.

  29.  
  30.      The IEEE P1295.2 working group invites your participation in the
  31. review and approval of the Open Toolkit Environment standard.
  32. P1295.2 is a standards working group of the Institute of Electrical and
  33. Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The group is sponsored by the IEEE
  34. Computer Society's Standards Activities Board to produce The IEEE Open
  35. Toolkit Environment Standard.
  36.  
  37.      The ballot group for the P1295.2 Open Toolkit Environment is now
  38. being formed. To be a voting member on the ballot group, you must be a
  39. member of the IEEE or the Computer Society. If you are not currently an
  40. IEEE or Computer Society member, you still have two options for
  41. participation.  You can become a voting member of the ballot group by
  42. joining the Computer Society at the same time you join the ballot
  43. group. To do so, submit a Computer Society membership form and the
  44. appropriate membership fee or a copy of the membership form (if the fee
  45. was previously sent) along with the ballot group form and mail to the
  46. address on the Balloting invitation.

  48.      Alternatively, you can participate as a "party of interest."
  49. Parties of interest cannot vote for the acceptance or rejection of the
  50. standard. However, their objections, if any, will be
  51. addressed by the ballot resolution group. To join the ballot group as
  52. a "party of interest," submit the enclosed ballot form, indicating that
  53. you want to participate in the P1295.2 ballot. The deadline for
  54. submitting these forms to the IEEE is January 11, 1993.  (Note that
  55. this is the date of receipt at the IEEE office, not a postmark date.)

  57.      It is currently expected that the draft IEEE Open Toolkit
  58. Environment Standard will be mailed to the members of the ballot group
  59. and registered parties of interest in February, 1993. Ballot group
  60. members will have 30 days to review the document and complete their
  61. objections and comments. Any objections must be accompanied by specific
  62. reference to the document text,
  63. an explanation of the objection, and a proposed rewording of the
  64. text. If necessary, the document will be revised to address the
  65. objections and then recirculated to the ballot group for additional
  66. review.

  68.      The working group expects the draft standard will consist of
  69. approximately 450 pages. Other documents that will be included with

  102. SCOPE:  To define a graphical user interface environment that is based
  103. on but not constrained by the OPEN LOOK Graphical User Interface
  104. toolkit specification.  The standard will be consistent with the
  105. Graphical User Interface Drivability recommended practice being
  106. developed by IEEE 1201.2 and an informative annex will be provided
  107. detailing discrepancies, if any.

  109. PURPOSE:  Provide a formal standard that can be used by implementors,
  110. applications developers, and in procurement; and which allows all
  111. interested parties to participate in the evolution of the
  112. specification.
  113.  
  114. Responsibilities:  If you return this form indicating your interest,
  115. you will become a formal member of the balloting body for this
  116. standard.  The draft will consist of approx 450 pages. Additional
  117. information on balloting rules and guidelines will accompany the draft
  118. when the balloting process begins.
  119.      In order for the Sponsor Ballot to be valid, at least 75% of the
  120. ballots sent must be returned.  For that reason:  VOTERS HAVE AN
  121. OBLIGATION TO RESPOND.  By returning this INVITATION, you are agreeing
  122. to review, endorse, and/or comment on the document within a specific
  123. timeframe.
