  29.     I have been using X386 1.1b for 2 years now, and am in the process of
  30.     upgrading to XFree86 and X11R5.  I started by grabbing the Binary's
  31.     fir XFree86 on ISC, and found to my surprise that they didn't use
  32.     the shared libraries.  So I blew them away, and decided to go for
  33.     the source and re-make it.  (I had made X386 1.1b on R4).  I have
  34.     now applied fix-17, and the 1.1 patches for XFree86 to the R5 tree,
  35.     and find in my going through x386.cf, and the .tmpl files that there
  36.     is no defined way of createing shared libraries on ISC 2.2, or SysVR3.
  37.  
  38.     How best can I accomplish this?  I don't have room for all the X binaries
  39.     without using shared libraries.  As it is, I had to remove several things
  40.     that we normally need to keep on-line in order to build X in the first place.

  42.     Does a patch exist to allow this?  Any idea how difficult a fix this really is?

  51. XFree861.2 will be announced at the X Technical Conference this Jan 20
  52. by David Wexelblat and myself. It will contain shared libraries for most
  53. of the X libraries plus a toolkit to allow quick porting of shared
  54. libraries from any archive library. All this work was contributed by
  55. Thomas Wolfram.

  57. Please wait for this release - it would be very confusing to have
  58. multiple shared library versions floating around :-)
