- Is a programmable keyboard important when running XFree86?
-
- I am looking at buying a keyboard for my system and my current
- criteria is a solid (metallic), durable and comfortable feeling keypad.
- I am viewing a programmable keyboard feature to be of minimal
- importance as I assume the few changes I will want to make to the
- key layout (Make sure a control and meta key are in a decent place.
- Say, set the right shift key to a meta key.) can be done through
- xmodmap and other keyboard functionality (function key assignment to
- window manager functions) can be set through my window manager (twm).
-
- Is this too simplistic a view to be taking due to missing functionality
- in "standard" PC keyboards?
-
- I am also not interested in too many function keys nor numeric keypads.
- A 101-key keyboard seems plenty to me.
- Can anyone suggest a brand or specific keyboard for me to look at?
-
- Also, have XFree86 users typically substituted three-button mice for
- their systems? Can anyone suggest a brand or specific mouse for me
- to look at?
-
- Thanks,
-
