- mads,
- To be frank i would say no.
- But the case is not hopeless. Start with prioritizing your data.
-
- Do an exersize ' if i was to salvage 20% of my data- what should i
- select ?'. Study your answer. Act accordingly.
-
- Save your valuable and unique data first, then you can start thinking
- of saving things you can restore from distribution tapes.
- I would start with selecting partitions you DONT backup. I hope
- you have avoided installing things in what uglix scratches when you
- installs a new system(this WILL give you problems when you update anyway.
- If you have partitions with binaries only- back up only when changed!
- Then select among 'dayly changing data' and other. If you are
- running some database, there surley is some kind of tool to backup
- without going down to singleuser mode. Otherwize cpio could be a better
- solution then dump (which collects information looong before actually
- dumping the data.
-
- Think of a disc-crash as a very efficient scavanger :-)
-
- Happy X-mas
