  22.   For this I can tell you only about one system:  ftp.funet.fi
  23. We have a small directory on the root disk:    /ftp,
  24. in it we have a dozen or so physical mountpoints   (/ftp/disk1 .. disk10),
  25. and to hide them from users, we have extremely hacked  "/bin/ls"  which
  26. has separate control files scattered around our directory tree guiding
  27. its view of the world.  (End result: symbolic links disappear, etc..)

  29.   Back then when that system was started, there was no  lofs  to my
  30. recollection (SunOS 4.0.3), and we haven't used it later for any reason.

  32.   Oh yes,  How do we have a LOT of disks on that host ?  With 3 SCSI host
  33. adapters, and lately  OnLine:DiskSuite metadisks.

  38.   Unless you are able to mount them under ~ftp, consider hard-coded NFF-
  39. mounts (a bit like lofs) or real lofs (SunOS system).
  40. (A friend of mine made such NFS-mounts on their company SysV ISC 2.1 -- ages
