- I have 386bsd installed and sort of running on my PC, but I need help getting
- it *really* running. I don't have an IDE controller; only an Adaptec 1542B
- controlling the floppies, as well as the SCSI devices. On the SCSI chain is
- a 200MB Quantum, an Archive Python DAT drive, and an old 173MB Wren.
-
- I'm really new to 386bsd, and I got to where I am by ftp'ing the distribution
- files at work, then ftp'ing them to a Mac at work, then writing DOS-format
- floppies on the Mac, then taking the floppies home to the PC.
-
- That was bad enough for the "bin" distribution, but I'd rather not do it that
- way for the "src" and "etc" kits. I have access to an HP 700 workstation at
- work with a DAT drive, and I've tar'd the kits to a tape. But trying to read
- it at home on the PC under 386bsd gets screenfuls of SCSI error messages and
- status register dumps. I've gleaned from this newsgroup that there are a few
- problems with the SCSI drivers, /dev/* special files, etc.
-
- The bottom line is, I'd really like to ftp a kernel that will enable me to get
- the rest of the distribution using DAT tape, rather than floppies. If some
- kind sole could point me to such a kernel, I'd be grateful (one with a working
- printer driver would also be a plus...)
-
- Thanks,
