- The Model two computer utilized disk drives that rotated continuosly once
- power was applied. The model 12, 16a, 16b, 6000 used what was called
- slimline drives that only rotated when requested to do so by accessing
- them or by operating the drive latch. When model two software was used
- in a slimline environment, drive-not-ready errors would occur because the
- drive was still trying to get up to speed. That is, the software was
- expecting action, but the hardware was just waking up. The thin/unthin
- patches placed (or removed) appropriate delays into the appropriate
- portions of the operating system.
-
- As to your "string not found" errors, no biggie. Each patch has the
- syntax of find this and replace it with that. If the target string is
- not found, the "string not found" error is generated. Typically, the
- patch has already been applied. That is, the target string was not
- found because it has already been replaced with the replaced by string.
- That is, don't worry about that error.
-
- BTW, diskettes that have been thinned will work just fine in a model
- two without being unthinned.
