- A couple of months ago I was given a TRS Model III computer that I in
- turn gave to a friend. We're mainly interested in using the Model III
- as a terminal for online communications. I was assured by this group
- that any MS-DOS compatible modem would work in this machine.
- Christmas has come and I purchased a modem for the occasion. We have
- the cables to hook up the modem and now comes the Catch-22.
-
- I was advised to use X-TERM as the communications package. It's
- supposed to be located on a BBS in Texas. (My 9600 baud modem has
- trouble connecting to 2400 baud modems so I haven't verified that
- fact. Still, I have a friend with a 2400 baud modem so that problem
- can be overcome.)
-
- Assuming I can download the communications program, how can I get it
- to my friend's computer when she doesn't have a com program that would
- enable her to initiate a 'receive' from me?
-
- We've seen mention of an RS-232 command instruction set in the manual
- but that part of the manual is missing. We have the little SETCOM
- program but I haven't tried it yet. Can I assume that I can run
- SETCOM and get to a terminal screen and then issue a Hayes command or
- an RS-232 command to initiate a 'receive' with the Model III?
-
- Or can I hook our computers together with a null modem cable and pump
- the program directly to a floppy in her Model III? I've never tried
- anything like this. Just grasping for straws here.
-
- BTW, we're running TRS-DOS 1.3.
-
- Once again, thanks for all your help.
