- Solaris 2.x includes a version of the run-time linker, and versions of
- shared libraries, to provide backwards compatibility. However:

- 1) if the application is *statically* linked with "libc", it
- loses, because the SunOS 4.x and SunOS 5.x system call trap
- interfaces are *not* binary compatible with each other;

- 2) there may well be bugs in the libraries in question, or in
- what kernel support was stuck in to help them out.
