- Hi Fellow Netters:
-
- A few quick DNS questions here:
-
- I have just installed NIS/DNS on 4 SPARCS. We have altered the Makefile in
- /var/yp such that the magic cookie will be inserted into the hosts maps on the
- Master Server.
-
- My first question is does this entry need to be made on the Slave server as
- well? This does not make sense to me: After all all maps are made on the
- Master Server right?
-
- My Next question concerns what has inspired me to post :-)
-
- We now have a serious mail problem on our machines... At first I beleived it
- to be a looping error: This inspired me to HUP the named server after changing
- the db.domain file in my db directory. Well, now my mail command does nothing
- at all but hang ...
-
- My original error occurred when attempting to mail to anything outside our
- organization.
-
- Error --> 553 Local configuration error
-
- Now this occurs when attempting to mail to anybody ... inside or outside ...
-
- mail rocky@bullwinkle.org -->CR
- it does nothing at all but hang
-
- I changed the db.domain back to exactly as it was prior to my experiment and
- HUPed in.named again in order to get my service to return to its old abnormal
- self ...
-
- No such luck ...
-
- I still get absolutley nothing back from the system ... it does nothing but
- hang ...
-
- I was getting the same result on both my slave server and clients prior to
- running this experiment on the Master ... i.e. they hung prior to my
- experiment...
-
- All this occurred after turning my slave server adn clients into secondary
- DNS servers ...
-
- nslookup runs fine on all machines ...
-
- This is my first exposure to really setting up DNS so I am a little confused!!
-
- Help!!
-
- --Thanks
