  13. This is my "anniversary" post since about 1 year ago, I posted an
  14. article pointing out that Mr. Job's announcement of a public stock
  15. offering was really an attempt to raise the value of the stock so that
  16. those with a vested interest could unload all their (eventually
  17. worthless) stock.  I also pointed out that if Mr. Jobs were smart,
  18. he would switch the central processor in upcoming Next machines to
  19. a SPARC chip and would switch manufacturing facilities to someplace
  20. like Thailand.  (By "smart", I mean, "wanting a company that is
  21. profitable.)

  23. Well, I was laughed off this place.  True, I did err about the stock
  24. announcement; Mr. Jobs did announce that the company _would_ go public
  25. but _had_ not yet gone public at the time.  (I erroneously thought that
  26. he had already gone public.)  Several people pointed out--huffy and puffy
  27. --that Next was doing fabulously well and should not switch to a SPARC
  28. chip and that moving manufacturing facilities to Thailand wouldn't
  29. help a bit.

  33. I just read the status of Next, Inc. in the latest issue of the
  34. Economist.  The line in the 1st paragraph reads, approximately,
  35.  
  36.          "Next, Inc. has yet to turn a profit".

  38. At the end of the article, it notes that a high-ranked official had
  39. jumped ship and moved to Sun Microsystems.  Mr. Job laments that
  40. Sun may yet crush the daylights out of his company.

  42. So, if Mr. Jobs is reading this, I wish him well and again offer the same
  43. advice.  Keep R & D in the USA but move _all_ manufacturing facilities
  44. to Thailand.  For crying out loud, use the Matsushita-designed 64-bit
  45. SPARC chip.  So, what do you care if people laugh because you chose
  46. the SPARC chip?  You will earn enough money to _burn_.
