- Subject: [*] AutoGuest.hqx
-
- One of the most common questions I get (just after the -903 from AESend) is
- "How do I get rid of the linking password dialog for Guest access?" Greg
- Anderson wrote a marvelously skanky INIT and code resource for doing this.
- It allows you to have transparent Guest access for Apple Events. If you
- install the INIT, you get no dialogs if guest access is allowed. If you
- use the code resource, you get no dialogs for that program.
-
- Mind you, this works with 7.x and may break at any moment, but it is currently
- the ONLY way to get past the dialog.

- CONTACTS+ is a Filemaker Pro (version 1.x) database. It's main
- purpose is to allow proper address details to appear (even
- when some components of the address are omitted such as the
- organization, country etc...) in Microsoft Word print-merge
- documents. Other than that, you should find that CONTACTS+ is
- just about as powerful and usable as any other `commercial'
- Contacts database/manager.
-
- Docu+ is a document manager. It is used in conjunction with
- Contacts+ v 1.4 or higher. You can create and store simple
- 1 page documents in Docu+ and then use the MiniLetter helper
- facility in Contacts+ to access the text stored in Docu+
- to create print-merge (1 page only) letters.
-
- Plea: If you feel that CONTACTS+ or Docu+ has some useful
- value, & want to encourage ME to improve CONTACTS+ and develop
- other `affordable & useful' databases, & want to receive future
- updates via email (personally sent by me), PLEASE send me a
- cheque (in Australian $) payable to: Andrew Lee, or any
- currency, for ANY amount that you find appropriate. I will
- email (internet) you the latest version of CONTACTS+

-
- Please post this new version of "random-dot-autostereograms.hqx" as
- "random-dot-autostereograms-2.0.hqx" or some similar and maybe shorter name.
- rda.2.0.hqx might be a good name.
-
- RDA Viewer by Barton Stander.
-
- *Note: When opening a file, it must be in the same folder as the Application.
- Opening PICT files is the only expception, they can be located anywhere.
-
- Random Dot Autostereograms (RDAs) are images that contain three dimensional
- information in a single image instead of a pair of images typically refered to
- as a stereo pair.
-
- When the RDA is properly viewed, the random dots appear to come out of or go
- into the viewing plane (Monitor, Paper, etc...).
-
- To view an RDA one must focus infront of the viewing plane, or behind the
- viewing plane. Focusing in front of the viewing plane is done by becoming
- crossed eyed.
- Focusing behind the viewing plane is done by becoming wall eyed.
-
- The RDA Viewer can read RDA images. It can also display PICT images. The
- Viewer can
- generate the same RDA images as provided. Generation takes a considerable
- amount of time. If
- you are running a 68000 or a machine without the 68881 FPU, then you shouldn't
- generate any
- images unless you have plenty of time (30 minutes). The advantage to
- generating images is that
- you can display the contours of the data.
-
- The RDA viewer now has an equation editor. You can enter in your own
- mathematical equations
- and view their results as an RDA or as a contour.
-
- The Viewer can save the images generated as PICT files, and these have been
- provided.
-
- Open an RDA image with the Viewer Application. I suggest the file
- "circle.PICT".
-
- Under the View menu, select "Show Repition Rate". This is the amount the eyes
- must be crossed
- or wall eyed to view the image.
-
- The two dots shown by Show Repition Rate are a guide to help you focus. Focus
- your eyes (by
- crossing of walling) util the two dots fuse to make three dots, on focused in
- the middle, and
- two fuzzy dots, one on each side of the focused middle dot.
-
- If you see four dots you have not crossed or walled enough. Sometimes it helps
- to put your
- finger in front of the image and focus on it, and in the background notice if
- there are three
- dots yet. Move your finger closer and further away until you have three dots.
-
- Once you have three dots, you must keep them focused and start to look down
- and towards the
- middle of the image. You will see the dots on different levels, at different
- depths.

- This is nice, but it doesn't solve my problem. Because the Dock doesn't "

- You can't really load INIT code after startup. But you CAN get your Mac
- to do what you want. get /info-mac/fkey/toggle-appletalk-30.hqx and

-
- Startup with AppleTalk active. Use the FKEY to toggle it OFF and then

- ToggleAT also is a work around for the bug which causes Quadra 700's to

- file sharing active (ToggleAT shuts down file sharing, naturally and then
- restarts it when AppleTalk is toggled back on).

- Whoops! David Reiser posts that Elek Tek won't sell the HP 4M to you

- But I don't think the reason can *simply* be that they're an HP authorized
- dealer. Dataprint, from whom I got mine for $1829, is also an HP authorized
- dealer, it's in North Carolina and I'm in Louisiana. But maybe DataPrint's
- authorized region includes Louisiana. So perhaps Elek-Tek covers more than
- Illinois.
-
- Actually, there's nothing in the DataPrint catalogue about geographical

- To quote Dean:
-
- As for why the total memory bounces back and forth, this is because the
- Process Manager makes synthetic fonts purgeable every time it does a
- context switch. (Synthetic fonts are created by the Font Manager to render
- fonts to a bit depth that doesn't match the bit depth of the font.) After
- this, if the synthetic font for Geneva 9 gets purged, that frees up memory,
- so the Finder updates the total memory used. But by redrawing that number,
- that forces the Font Manager to rebuild the synthetic font for Geneva 9,
- which takes up more memory, so the Finder updates again, then the Process
- Manager goes and makes it purgeable, ad infinitum...

- running that X Server remotely, I'm able to "drive" my mac from an X Server's
- display, keyboard, and mouse, while remote from the macintosh, e.g., in front

-
- I want to use it in combination with 2 packages called PCXView for Windows and
- XRemote, from NCD. These packages let my PC at home display X Windows over a
- telephone line (9600 baud), and includes compression to make it sort of
- viable.
- Unfortunately, PlanetX transfers so much data (in the form of images) that
- the performance is too slow for my situation, and the Planet X aborts (perhaps
- due to network level timeouts). However, InterCon is looking into this...
-
- MY QUESTION: Are there any similar packages for the Macintosh, that would

-
- Let me also present my apologies for not being very specific about

- >and whenever I transfer the margins and fontsize don't seem to transfer

-
- A few days ago I acquired WP 2.1.2, and today made a similar observation:
- When I save a WordPerfect/Mac 2.1.2 document in WP 5.1 format, and then
- re-import it into WordPerfect/Mac 2.1.2 (to check for transfer accuracy),
- the document looks quite differently: some of the Tab settings have been
- changed, with the result that the page layout gets messed up. Also, a Page
- Border got lost.
-
- I do not know whether the bugs occur during the 2.1 -> 5.1 transfer, or
- during the inverse transfer back to the Mac. I myself cannot test how that
- file would print directly from 5.1: All I have here is a Mac; the 5.1
- transfer is intended for someone else out of town. What I DO know is that
- the first 5.1 file I received from the other person yielded a Mac document
- that looked quite different than the accompanying printout of the very same
- file directly from 5.1.
-
- I had acquired WordPerfect/Mac (very recently) for sole reason to be able
- to exchange formatted word processor documents with our Central
- Administration in Oakland, where they have standardized on WordPerfect 5.1.
- Evidently, this highly-touted file interchangeability is so far little more
- than an advertising claim. I find it hard to comprehend how such an obvious
