- To elaborate on this comment (which I agree with), no matter how good
- a computer's specifications are, if it is not an accepted standard,
- I have no interest in the computer.
-
- This is the case with the Amiga series of computers, including the 4000.
- In my opinion, the Amiga has always been one step ahead of any other computer
- in its price range architecturally, dating back to the 1000 released circa
- 1985. Today, if you need an excellent audio/visual production machine,
- there is no better choice than an Amiga.
-
- But for most other tasks, the Amiga just is not regarded as a viable
- option by most, not because it is in any way physically incapable, but
- because it has never received widespread support (in the U.S., anyway).
- People need a GOOD reason to spring for an Amiga. Therefore, if I don't have
- to use one at work, or if I can't buy for it a version of that word processing
- package that I learned to use at that class last month, then I do not have
- good reason to buy an Amiga, no matter what its capabilities are.
-
- It hurts me to see the Amiga not gain acceptance, considering its
- capabilities. I bought an Amiga 500 back in 1988, but sadly it has been
- demoted to "the family Nintendo." To this day, I am baffled
- as to why Commodore cannot put more respect into this machine than they
- have. Perhaps an aggressive campaign aimed at universities and businesses
- would help. But they need to do something, or the Amiga 4000 will just
- become another computer with great, but unfulfilled potential.
