- This Christmas I treated the family (and myself) to a new 486
- computer with a Multi-Media Setup. I posted several questions to
- this newsgroup about the monitor and Graphics card. I got
- alot of very good advice and made my purchase based on that advice
- So I though it would be nice to report back to the news group.
-
- I purchased a 'no-name' clone from a Local company. This computer
- is a 486DX-2 with 8mb RAM, a SONY CD, and a Sound Blaster card.
-
- For the monitor I purchased the MAG InnoVision 17" monitor with
- the Diamond Stealth Card. The Monitor installed in less than
- 5 minutes .. Very clear manual .. I love the small LED that
- informs you on the mode its in. The Hor & Vert controls are
- push buttons, you hold them in until it is adjusted .. The
- monitor is fairly Flat with NO fuzzy edges. The Stealth card
- also installed in Minutes .. hardware and sofware .. again
- a very good manual came with the card. At first I was a little
- upset because there were only 5 drivers for windows, and none
- that would do windows at 1024x1280 x 16 colors .. also the
- 768x1024 driver only did 16 Colors. I called USA Flex (where
- I bought the Monitor & Card) .. They told me that the way it is,
- send the card back if you don't like it. I then called Diamond ..
- the answered very quick .. they have additional drivers .. They
- offered to send .. or they gave me the number of a BBS they have.
- I got the drivers from their BBS. In addition to the original five
- drivers, they had a 1024x1280x16colors Interlaced, and a 768x1024
- by 256 colors Non-Interlaced driver, plus alot of other great
- utils. I tried both the new drivers .. I did not like the 1024x1280x16
- as much the 768x1024x256 .. The lettering was a little fuzzy with
- the hi-res driver .. So I have stayed with 768x1024x256colors ..
-
- The family and friends were very impressed .. My child as a game
- called ZooKeeper that has alot of digitized Photos .. they look
- almost like real photos .. we also have MicroSoft's Multi-Media
- Ciminea .. which has a lot of photos .. again very clear ..
- The screen opens Windows instantly .. and paints the digitzed
- Photos Almost instantly.
-
- In case you interested .. I paid $1,069 for the monitor .. and
- $209 for the card.. well worth it ...
