  11. This Christmas I treated the family (and myself) to a new 486
  12. computer with a Multi-Media Setup. I posted several questions to
  13. this newsgroup about the monitor and Graphics card. I got 
  14. alot of very good advice and made my purchase based on that advice
  15. So I though it would be nice to report back to the news group.

  17. I purchased a 'no-name' clone from a Local company. This computer
  18. is a 486DX-2 with 8mb RAM, a SONY CD, and a Sound Blaster card.

  20. For the monitor I purchased the MAG InnoVision 17" monitor with
  21. the Diamond Stealth Card. The Monitor installed in less than
  22. 5 minutes .. Very clear manual .. I love the small LED that
  23. informs you on the mode its in. The Hor & Vert controls are
  24. push buttons, you hold them in until it is adjusted .. The
  25. monitor is fairly Flat with NO fuzzy edges. The Stealth card
  26. also installed in Minutes .. hardware and sofware .. again
  27. a very good manual came with the card. At first I was a little
  28. upset because there were only 5 drivers for windows, and none
  29. that would do windows at 1024x1280 x 16 colors .. also the 
  30. 768x1024 driver only did 16 Colors. I called USA Flex (where
  31. I bought the Monitor & Card) .. They told me that the way it is,
  32. send the card back if you don't like it.  I then called Diamond ..
  33. the answered very quick .. they have additional drivers .. They
  34. offered to send .. or they gave me the number of a BBS they have.
  35. I got the drivers from their BBS. In addition to the original five
  36. drivers, they had a 1024x1280x16colors Interlaced, and a 768x1024
  37. by 256 colors Non-Interlaced driver, plus alot of other great
  38. utils. I tried both the new drivers .. I did not like the 1024x1280x16
  39. as much the 768x1024x256 .. The lettering was a little fuzzy with
  40. the hi-res driver .. So I have stayed with 768x1024x256colors ..

  42. The family and friends were very impressed .. My child as a game
  43. called ZooKeeper that has alot of digitized Photos .. they look
  44. almost like real photos .. we also have MicroSoft's Multi-Media
  45. Ciminea .. which has a lot of photos .. again very clear ..
  46. The screen opens Windows instantly .. and paints the digitzed
  47. Photos Almost instantly.

  49. In case you interested .. I paid $1,069 for the monitor .. and
  50. $209 for the card.. well worth it ...
