- Call Gateway before assuming one of their systems has a game port. My
- younger brother just purchased the $1695 4sx-33 system and it did not
- have one.
-
- Nifty system though. Video, disk, and I/o all on the motherboard. Riser
- card for horizontal mounting of cards. Nice small footprint case.
-
- No jumper hassles when changing COM IRQs or addresses or even the
- mapping between COM ports and the physical ports on the back of the
- machine. It is all handled in the Setup menu. Nice.
-
- Of course, the com ports were not set correctly when we recived the
- machine, the Telepath modem wouldn't work with their phone/electrical
- system ( I brought a separate working Gateway system to test and it
- wouldn't work their either), and one of the Windows diusks was
- unreadable (of course it was the one with the printer driver I needed).
-
- Tech support was real helpful, but since the problems were discovered
- at separate times, we spent ~90minutes total on the phone, mostly on hold.
-
- Nifty story though: They were closed for the holiday weekend so tech
- support wasn't open when I called about the modem. I narrowed it down
- to the house wiring and removed the modem since I was going home and
- no one else there was too technically competent. When they called tech
- support, they had a little trouble actually conveying what the problem
- was. The techie offered to call me in Rochester just to get things
- cleared up. He did. I explained the problem. He gave a return
- authorization with no hassles. I was impressed because the guy went
- out of his way to make one last attempt at fixing the problem.
-
- Gateway has a few problems, but in my experience they do there best
- to fix them.
