- I had a similar problem with a new Fujitsu 2624FA drive and a SCSI control
- ler . Turns out that these new FAST SCSI drives really push some of these
- controllers and the controller craps out if the drive tries to do fast
- synchronous transfers. My controller card ( not adaptec) does work with
- other fast SCSI drives but not with others. It appears that there is not
- a official standard for FAST SCSI so the manufacturers implement it
- differently.
-
- My temporary fix was to force the disk to work in async mode ( old SCSI 1)
- by setting a jumper on the disk.
- The controller manufacturer will be sending me a new card in Jan that
- apparently fixes the problem. For now I'm am working fine but I have
- noticed that if some unweildy applications leave corrupted files on
- the disk ( cross linked ) then I get windows hanging. Subsequently running
- chkdsk /F appears to fix the problem and everything works fine. You may
- want to try this first. Then I would phone adaptec to see if they have
- had problems with your disk drive model and see if they have a fix.
- Otherwise I would ask them to tell you how to set the controller to
- Async. mode.
-
- By the way I have a 33-486 with an ATI Ultra ( not plus) and a fujitsu
- 2624FA.
