- I have/had a Maxtor 340 MB disk that was working fine for just over a month
- when it stopped spinning up after having been turned off for awhile. Actually,
- it would spin up, but it appeared to be a temperature problem - leave the power
- on for a minute or so then restart the computer and the disk would spin up.
- Once the disk was spinning, no problems.
-
- Well, I returned the disk and controller to the person I bought them from. He
- checked it out and couldn't find anything wrong. Maxtor evidently couldn't
- find anything wrong either.
-
- The dealer/tech said that there may be a few bad chips on the motherboard.
-
- My question (I know it took long enough to get to it!) is what could the
- expense be to replace these chips vs. picking up a new motherboard?
-
- I have not yet gotten a quote from the dealer, nor do I even know if the chips
- can be replaced. This is speculation on my part. I'm not an EE nor an
- electronics wiz so any clarification on this matter would be appreciated.
-
- Thanks in advance.
