- With respect to transmitting hp48 data via radio:
-
- 1. Legality: I have an amateur radio op's licence (measly tech class),
- and if I remember correctly, any transmission on ANY frequency that
- is under 1/4 watt in power is legal, *as long as it doesn't interfere
- with anybody or anything else*. And supposedly, receiving of any
- radio signal of any power and any frequency is legal, although there
- is currently a lot of debate about that (i.e. speed radar signals,
- cellular phone signals, satellite TV reception, etc)
-
- 2. Size of transmitter/receiver: I hardly think 10 x 5 x 3 cm is
- *small*.. you can get kits for about $10 (U.S.) that operate
- under 1/4 Watt in the commercial FM band and are about 2 x 2 x 1 cm
- (surface mount, of course), and FM recievers have gotten quite small
- nowadays as well (and that's for 88-108Mhz tunable ones: overkill
- considering you only need one or two frequencies).
-
- 3. The "packet" modem thingy and a 2-meter ham radio will work (I've
- done it), but requires a ham license (most ham rigs wont operate
- under 1 Watt) and considerable expense for the equipment (~$400).
-
- I delved into ultrasonics as a medium, but you tend to be able to hear
- the modulating signal .
-
- Hope this helps
