- vi(1) sends the terminal an escape sequence in order to put it into
- what you're calling "raw mode". In HP terms, you want to put the
- terminal into "Transmit Functions" mode. If you check the HP817's
- terminfo database you will find that the terminal init string contains
- an "\e&s1A" to put the terminal into Transmit Functions mode.
