  13. I have found a serious deficiency with the HP-UX memory management and
  14. was wondering if anyone else has seen this problem: whenever a process
  15. require more memory than the amount of physical RAM that the system has,
  16. the HP-UX operating system (8.05,8.07 & 9.0) start ``thrashing'', a
  17. term HP uses to mean that the disk continues to swap indefinately
  18. while the process makes no progress!  
  19.  
  20. We have seen this on processes requiring more than 32 Meg on a 32 Mb
  21. 720 & 730.  The problem disappears whenever there is more RAM than the
  22. process size (i.e. we increased the system RAM to 64 Mb).  But this is
  23. a rediculous solution, especially when the same process runs on a
  24. similar Sun box w/o problem.

  26. HP mentioned that it solved this problem with HP-UX 9.0, however, we
  27. haven't seen that to be true.  Does anyone else know about this
  28. problem?
