- I hope that one of you amiga control gurus out there will read this and
- be able to help me. I need information that is not folklore, so if
- you don't know for sure, please state it in your reply.
-
- Ok. I want to do a presentation with my amiga in which I will be standing
- on a stage approximately 50 feet from my machine. I want to be able to
- control my computer via an infrared mouse or trackball and some sort of
- infrared signal-amplifier that will allow me to place my machine up in
- the booth with the projection TV system, while I stand infront of the
- crowd on the stage below and control it with the mouse or trackball.
-
- I have been told that since the range of the infrared input devices is
- about 4 feet, I will need an amplifier such as the ones in the DAK and
- DAMARK catalogues to get the range I need. The only infrared amplifiers
- (if that is infact what they are) that I have found in these catalogues
- are designed to work with infrared remotes (TV, VCR) and the customer
- service people have told me they won't work with an infrared input device
- like I want to use. I have tried calling Alfa-Data (makers of an infrared
- mouse and trackball) but they were completely un-helpful since they are
- only a distributor and their product comes from Taiwan. I haven't gotten
- ahold of Golden Image yet, but I would suspect their story is the same.
-
- What I want to know is, can this be done? Has anyone out there attempted
- to control their computer from a remote location-- say farther than 15 feet
- away? What type of input device and infrared amplifier are needed?
- Or is the only other solution to place the computer on the stage next to me
- and run 50 feet of coaxial cable up to the projection TV in the booth?
-
- Please e-mail any replies. I don't often get to read this newsgroup.
-
- Thanks!
