- >I'm going to be getting a 24-bit display device soon. I have a few
- >questions about the OpalVision main board:
-
- >1) Is it truely 24-bit or does it have color registers?
-
- Yes, it is 100% 24bit, and it also has registers. It can display
- images in many different display modes, include 1 to 8 bit planes
- (2 to 256 colours) a 15 bit true colour mode and a 24bit true colour
- mode. It can also display 24bit images while using the palette as
- colour lookup tables, this allows for realtime fade, brightness,
- gamma correction etc.
-
- >2) Does it come with all of the memory to do 24-bit double-buffering?
-
- It will double buffer in lores non-interlaced and lores-interlaced.
-
- >3) Will it require a VGA monitor, or does it output in NTSC?
-
- The OpalVision motherboard will output at 15Khz in R,G,B. This means
- that it will run on any R,G,B monitor, for example a 1084, 1081, 1950,
- 1960 etc. If you wish to have an NTSC (composite) output, you can use
- a standard Amiga genlock or use the OpalVision's frame grabber genlock
- when it becomes available.
-
- >4) The ad says that it animates at 60fps. Can it really deliver?
-
- The animation speed depend on many factors of course (CPU, the animation
- itself). You will only get 60fps in 8bit (256 colour) mode. The following
- table gives a guide for the typical frame rates obtained by OpalAnimMATE.
-
- Screensize Mode Framerate Framerate max. Framerate

- >5) Is there anything else that you would care to add?
-
- I suggest that you call the OpalVision BBS on (310)793-7142 there
- you will be able to speak to over 200 OpalVision owners who will be
- able to give you there impressions, you will also be able to download
- all of the OpalVision software.
- I am part of the OpalVision development team, so I wont attempt to
- give you any personal impressions, many people on our BBS on the other
- hand, would be happy to.
